Before you can add anyone to a team, the player needs to exist in the game.
To Create a New Player:
- From the main menu, go to the Create menu (look for the clipboard icon at the top).
- Select Roster Control, then choose Create a Player.
- Customize everything: name, appearance, position, and attributes.
Pro Tip: Temporarily max out your player’s stats to 99 Overall. This makes them easier to find in the Free Agent pool later. Once they’re on a team, you can dial the stats back to realistic levels.
To Download a Vault Player:
- Go to the Create menu and select Vaults.
- Browse Rosters or Players and download the file.
- Make sure to save it locally, so the game knows it exists for your rosters.
Step 2: Assign the Player to a Team
By default, custom players sit in the Free Agent pool, meaning they’re not attached to any MLB team. You’ll need to manually move them.
- Go back to Roster Control in the Create menu.
- Select Player Movement.
- On one side, find your Free Agents. On the other, pick your preferred MLB team.
- Locate your custom player in the Free Agent list.
- Swap or trade them with a low-ranking minor leaguer (like a Class-A player you won’t use). This keeps your team’s roster size valid.
Step 3: Save Your Custom Roster
The game won’t remember your changes unless you save them.
- Press Options/Menu to back out of Roster Control.
- Navigate to Settings > File Management.
- Select Save, then Roster, and create a file with a distinct name (e.g.,
"MyCustomRoster").
Step 4: Load the Roster into Your Franchise or Game Mode
Custom players cannot be added to an ongoing Franchise save—you need to start fresh.
- From the main menu, highlight Franchise (or your preferred offline mode).
- Press Square (PlayStation) or X (Xbox) to start a New Save.
- When prompted for a roster setup, choose Load Saved Roster (not "Live Roster" or "Default").
- Select your saved
"MyCustomRoster"file.Your custom player is now permanently on your team’s depth chart, ready for action.
Adding custom players can really make your MLB The Show 26 experience personal. Whether it’s a superstar you designed or a fan-made legend from the Vault, you’re now equipped to get them onto your roster without any frustration. Time to dominate the league your way!
